A new louisiana majority

In its 2016 Louisiana Study, LSU found that 76 percent of our residents want to see an increase to the state minimum wage. Unfortunately, lawmakers and lobbyists in Baton Rouge have ignored the will of the people. Those who oppose raising the statewide minimum wage often cite regional differences in Louisiana as a reason to keep our wage floor at $7.25 an hour.

However, Louisianans’ overwhelming support for higher wages, and their understanding that we need innovative solutions to deal with the state’s high poverty rate and other systemic issues, has allowed us to bring together a large coalition of workers, families, labor unions, community service organizations and grassroots groups to form the Unleash Local coalition.
